It’s crazy to think that this little photo, posted just three years ago, could spawn such an amazing social media holiday. I honestly thought this would just be a little fun for me and my friends. I never conceived of this going global, but it has.
Over 5,000 posts on Twitter and Instagram alone yesterday. I don’t have a count, but I would conservatively estimate another 2500 on Facebook. Posts were coming in from all over the world, from Indonisia to Australia, Great Britian to Argentina. 61 MILLION impressions. “Take Your Action Figure To Work Day” was mentioned on Good Morning America, and several morning shows, as well as dozens of online media outlets. We ruled the web.
There were a lot of people involved in helping me with Take Your Action Figure To Work Day. I have to give a special shout out to my best friend Anthony Lower, web designer Abey John, and my partner Tom Hubble. These guys really encouraged me to make this more that I thought it could be.
I also want to thank Jeff at Mashable, Michaela at Entertainment Earth, TJ and Lennon at Go Figure News, Tony at MyFaceOnAFigure.com, Steven at Action Figure Attack, the librarians at the American Library Asssociation, Daniel at Action Figure Insider, and James at The Rockfather Magazine for helping get the word out. Also, thank you to Cullan Hudson for the design of our logo.
Mostly, I want to thank each and every one of you who posted. I tried to look at every single tweet, Insta, or Facebook post, until it became clear that it was impossible to do. Please know that even if you didn’t get a Like, or retweet, your participation was still appreciated beyond belief. It was the Geeks and Nerds like you and me who made this Social Media Holiday into a phenomenon.
Check out the Photostream page here on the website to see all of the wonderful posts, and start getting ready for next year, because it’s going to be even bigger.
